Paint Process FAQs
How do you come up with my design?
A Troy Lee Designs custom painted helmet can be anything you can imagine. You can send us your own idea, photo, drawing, cartoon, and or a photo of the image you want us to duplicate. You can mix and match designs of your favorite racers or ask us to come up with something totally original.
Do I get to see a rendering of my helmet before painting?
Yes, our paint team will guide you through the process to help you come up with the best design based on your budget and time frame. Our artist will provide a rendering of your helmet design for you to review and approve. Of course the PPG colors and art on your helmet will be much richer and colorful, and the art will be more precise.
How long does it take to custom paint a helmet?
It depends on the amount of art and colors on your helmet, along with the workload in the paint shop. Normally it takes 4-6 weeks from the time we receive the helmet and art is approved. If it’s simply adding a name and number to a new helmet, we’d need 5-7 days.
Do you paint other helmets besides Troy Lee Designs?
Yes we do. We paint all brands and styles of helmets. Along with moto, bicycle and auto racing helmets, we’ve painted fighter pilot, motorcycle police, football, baseball, and fire fighter helmets. For the very best results we recommend starting with a new solid black or white helmet.
Do you only paint helmets?
We love to add art to special possessions. We enjoy painting bicycle frames, guitars, surfboards, decoy ducks, tricycles. Really, we just like painting cool stuff. Contact the Paint Department to discuss your project before sending your special possession.

2020 Thanksgiving hours 11/25 8-3pm and Closed Thursday and Friday
A 50% deposit is required before we can start creating your masterpiece. We accept Visa, Master Card, Check, or Money Order. Note that turn around time varies with your helmet and we will make every effort to meet your desired completion date. We also offer a rush program at an additional cost. Price does not include helmet.
