Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Smith Never Gives Up in Toronto
TORONTO (March 4, 2017) – Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Jordon Smith came through the pack and even overcame a crash to finish seventh at the third round of the Eastern Regional 250SX championship in Canada. Smith still holds onto third in the championship standings with his come-from-behind ride. Teammate Alex Martin got a mid-pack start but after running in the top-10 had a late race crash and finished 15th.
The day as a whole turned out well for Smith, who qualified sixth and raced to third in his heat race. In the main event, Smith didn’t get the best start, which put him outside the top 10. He was working his way through with some good speed but went down with help form another rider. Smith got up quickly and his speed ultimately helped him work his way into seventh by the checkered flag.
“It was definitely a crazy main event,” said Smith. “Having a bad start didn’t help me and really put me in the middle of a lot of chaos. I eventually went down but knew I had to make up as many points as possible. We’ll get it back next week. Should be fun in Daytona
Martin entered the night as eighth qualifier and finished his heat race in fifth. The main event was looking promising after an eighth-place start. He was running solid in the top 10 when he went down and dropped down the chart. Martin remounted and finished the race in 15th.
The KTM Junior Supercross Challenge riders – decked out in their TLD Youth GP Quest gear – were as cute as they were talented in Toronto. Ben Kongmany was a man on a mission and led all three laps. He was joined on the podium by Riley Clapp and Cooper Wallis.
The Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM team heads to the Great White North and the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada for the lone international stop of the circuit.
Smith and Martin were wearing the SE Air Phantom White and Black Racewear during practice and then switched to the GP Tremor White and Black Racewear for the night races. The SE4 Twilight Black and White Helmet complemented the gear. See all of the 2017 gear sets and the 2017 Moto Helmets online and at your local TLD retailer.
