ST. LOUIS (April 1, 2017)
– Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Jordon Smith proved his win in Detroit wasn’t a fluke as he collected his second-straight win inside The Dome at America’s Center. With the win, he continued to close the gap on the championship leader and now sits just six points back with two rounds remaining. Teammate Alex Martin made the difficult decision to sit out the round in St. Louis, still recovering from injuries he sustained in practice last weekend.
As the sole representation for the team, Smith proved he was up to the task from the start of the night. He rode to a solid second-place finish in the heat race, giving him a good gate pick for the main event. When it was game time, Smith shot out to a top five start and then quickly made it into second after the first few turns. Smith was right on the leader and just as the race was about to hit halfway he was able to capitalize on a mistake from the leader and takeover the top position. He went on to ride a consistent and steady race on a very technical track to take home him second career win.
“The racing has been crazy this year with the top five so close and it has been a lot about the start and just minimizing mistakes,” said Smith. “The track was really tough. My team helped me make some changes that really made a difference for me tonight. I’m really thankful for them and all the support they give me.”
After a short break, the KTM Junior Supercross Championship returned to St. Louis and there was no shortage of action. While Manuel Torrado took over the lead early and didn’t look back, Landon Bilyeu put on a show coming from fifth to second during the three lap race. Joining them on the podium was Caleb Tate
