BMX and Downhill World Domination

BMX and Downhill World Domination

It was a whirlwind of a weekend for the TLD bike roster with not one, but two premier races taking place on the world stage by way of the the BMX World Championship in Nantes, France and the UCI World Cup Downhill round 6 in Snowshoe, West Virginia. When the world's fastest crossed the line, Felicia Stancil was crowned the new BMX Women's Elite World Champion, Simon Marquart earned the BMX Men's Elite World Championship and Camille Balanche won round 6 of the World Cup Downhill.

BMX World Champs

A true comeback story, Felicia Stancil is coming off of the biggest injury of her career, a dislocated hip in January that sidelined her from racing for nearly 5 months. Without missing a beat, the reigning USA National Champion Felicia earned the rainbow jersey by .01 of a second to put the red, white and blue on the top step and earn her career first world title.

Simon Marquart, who won the 2021 UCI BMX World Cup overall title, put on a display of great riding all week and went on to capitalize in the final to win the Elite Men's BMX World Championship. The historic win marks the first ever BMX World Title for the country of Switzerland and the first of Simon’s career. The newest member of the TLD BMX team, Great Britain Olympian Kye Whyte joined Simon and his D4 Helmet on the podium after taking silver in the final.

World Cup Downhill Round 6 - Snowshoe

Once again Snowshoe delivered a great show. This time, Snowshoe, WV was not the last World Cup Downhill  round of the season like it was in 2021, but the race was just as intense. Arguably the most technical and physical track of the year became even more difficult with added rain during the first day of practice and in qualifying. As the course started to dry during the final, the conditions became even worse in some section. All of that couldn't stop Camille Balanche from taking the top spot in qualifying and the race win. The big win marked Cami's third victory of the season, which means she has won half of the rounds heading into the home stretch of the season.
Joining Camille on the Elite Women's podium was Vali Höll in fourth and Monika Hrastnik in 5th to give the TLD women three out of the five top spots!
If all that wasn't enough, the Juniors were out in full force. Tegan Cruz brought home second place silver in the junior men's category, which was his second podium in a row and his personal best finish. First year junior Jenna Hastings, also earned her fifth podium of the season!
