The protection pad is well

"The protection pad is well placed but it’s thin compared to my other d30 protection gear. I was sceptical about it from the start and just had my first bail on the hip this weekend. It felt like i wasn’t wearing any protection. I have a bad bruise covering my whole hip joint and skin rashes. Luckily it was not too much of a big crash. Don’t want to hate on the brand as I usually love Troy lee’s products but this is disappointing for a 250$ pair of shorts. Will be looking for something more protective. If you do mellow trail riding this might be for your but definitely not bulky enough for fast downhill riding."

Stage Ghost D3O Short Baselayer

"These fit amazing! I havent fallen yet so cant say how they perform but they fit snugly and still move freely under a regular pair of long pants without adding bulk. The fit is what I like best, these are worth the premium for this alone. I know I have the best/latest tech with the D3o padding but the added confidence to push limits is worth much more than the premium price."

Fairly Priced, Gets The Job Done

"Why only 3 stars? Coverage of hip and thigh area needs to be increased. There is simply not enough padded coverage. The predecessor to this new ghost short did not have the same level of material quality but had much more protective coverage over the hip and quad muscles."
